The Review Game
So I’ve been asked this a few times and I’ve always been a bit reluctant to answer, but I feel it should be said. How did I get into product reviews?
Easy, I started writing product reviews.
Something like 95% of my reviews are for products I purchased with my own hard-earned money and decided to review and promote (or warn people never to buy!). Yes I chose that number at random, but it gets my point across. I don’t feel I owe anything to the manufacturers when I purchase a product, and so my reviews are my honest opinion. Sure, a lot of my reviews are positive but that’s because if I bought something that sucked I either toss it or send it back.
But what about the other 5%? Well, sometimes a seller or manufacturer will send me a product in return for a review. Not promotion mind you, a review. There are a lot of folks out there who will take advantage of this by writing fluff reviews just to get free stuff, and boy is it tempting… but I’m not going to do that.
I’ve received a few items in this manner such as the Team Legit Fohdy or the BrainFPV RE1, it just so happens that these were quality product that I loved. During the review process I went back and forth with the manufacturers to make sure I get my information right and provided them with feedback on my experience. This is important as it helps them improve their product, and helps me write an accurate review. The recent review I wrote for the VQ250 is proof that sometimes I don’t love a product at first, but by working with the manufacturer I may grow to better appreciate it for what it is.
The important lesson here is that as a reviewer you need to give a product a chance, communicate with the manufacturer, and most of all be honest. Those are my goals, and it is what you should expect from me and my reviews. If I say I like a product then I do. If I say I have a problem with a product, then I do. It does no good to give a positive review to a garbage product, as the manufacturer will never correct their mistakes and your readers will stop trusting you. Once that happens your done, because without readers you have nothing to offer manufacturers. Whether or not I paid for a product does not affect my opinion, because either way I owe the manufacturer nothing. They provide a product, I provide a service, everybody gets something in the end.
I have a few high-profile reviews coming up that I am very excited for, all of which were provided to me for a review. You can be assured my reviews will be honest and thorough. Hopefully they will be entertaining as well!
