Chair-Pak FPV Drone Pack Preview – I got to test a prototype!
So you finally found that perfect spot for FPV, but it’s in the middle of nowhere without a chair to sit in and there’s nowhere to work on repairs? Well there’s a solution for that! Let me introduce you to the Chair-Pak FPV Drone Pack – a lightweight backpack with integrated folding chair and FPV gear storage. I got my hands on an early prototype and put it through its paces. Let’s take a look!
California-based Chair-Pak Company has been around since 2003, and has put a lot of effort into making the Chair-Pak the most comfortable and portable backpack chair possible. Recent efforts have shown the release of a new add-on specifically aimed at the FPV crowd. The FPV Drone Pack takes the original Chair-Pakm, tweaks the design a bit, and adds additional components that make for an awesome upgrade.
The Chair-Pak seat folds out from the bag easily, and even though the frame is rigid it is not uncomfortable to wear and is rated for up to 230 pounds. The seat height is adjustable, and the back of the chair folds down so you can use it as a mobile workbench. There’s plenty of room inside for a laptop, extra props, tools, and even a water bottle on the side. Plus, it’s pretty dang comfortable.
Inside the pack is a removable storage compartment with a worktop / launch pad for your drones and a magnetic strip for holding your tools when swapping props or making quick field repairs. Inside there’s plenty of room for your goggles, transmitter, batteries, and other accessories – or rearrange the removable dividers and store your drone internally. There are pockets for tools on the sides, and a rain cover along the bottom to protect or conceal your gear.
The Chair-Pak FPV Drone Pack also includes straps for holding two or more quads on the outside, making sure that even if your main fails you’ve still got a backup ready to go. When it’s time to gather up your gear and head out just fold up the seat, strap on the Chair-Pak, and off you go. It’s an elegant and well thought-out solution for FPV enthusiasts who like to get out and get up to those one-of-a-kind spots.
The prototype unit that I received was still a rough draft, but the fact that it works so well even at this early stage says a lot. Chair-Pak is still working out manufacturing on the FPV Drone Pack so you can’t get your hands on one just yet, but keep an eye out and head over to chairpak.com and join the waiting list to be one of the first to get your hands on one. I’ll have a full review of the final unit coming away as soon as they start production!
